Back Pack Pals

Back Pack Pals (BPP) is a very popular program in Randolph county.  To meet local need, Communities in Schools of Randolph County partners with multiple local individuals, civic groups, churches, businesses and the Randolph County United Way to provide over 565 bags of food on the weekend throughout the school year for students and/or families in need.  Volunteers shop for pack and deliver bags to local schools which are then distributed to children in need of food for the weekend days.  Our summer BPP program is now providing weekend food to 172 students via direct delivery.

How you can help?

Sponsor a Child– It only takes $5.30 per week or $300 for an entire school year.

Sponsor a School – For a donation of $5750, a church or community group can provide needed food to 25 students at a school.

Hold a food drive– Below is the list of food types and examples we put into our bags.  Remember all items are individual sized.

Each bag contains 11 items:

2 protein items (Vienna Sausage, Mac & Cheese, Chef Boyardee cups or cans, tuna pouches, Beanee Weenies)

2 drink pouches or boxes (Capri Sun, Koolaid Jammers etc.)

2 breakfast items (Poptarts, granola or cereal bars, single serve cereal boxes, instant oatmeal)

1 fruit or vegetable cup

1 applesauce cup

1 Ramen noodles

2 snacks (Lance crackers, raisins, Rice Krispie treats, pudding cups, Jello cups, single serve snack crackers or cookies)

We try to pack one sweet and one savory snack. We also try to pack 2 different protein and breakfast items.

We also use regular plastic grocery bags to pack the food in.
