About

Welcome to CIS of Randolph County

Our MISSION – To surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  Communities In Schools believes all students deserve five basic resources:

A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
A safe place to learn and grow
A healthy start – a healthy future
A marketable skill to use upon graduation
A chance to give back to peers and community

Our services range from providing food to hungry children on the weekends, book giveaways, academic tutoring, enrichment programs, providing mentors for individual students or small groups, book clubs, Reality Store (financial literacy experience) and so much more. . . .

THE STORIES –

Our teachers say…

(This student) became more responsible for herself as time went on. This year, however, she does need someone to consistently encourage her or she will slip back easily. (Her volunteer) greatly helped her
Ms. Keever, Trinity Elementary.

Thank you for this wonderful program. (This student) hated to admit it, but he loved (his volunteer) coming to spend time with him
Ms. Cromer, John Lawrence Elementary.

(This student) needs lots of one-on-one, and (his volunteer) helped to meet that need.
Ms. Walden, Archdale Elementary

Our students say…

She’s great (my mentor).  Can I keep her?                                                                                               Jacob, 3rd grade

I like going outside and her (his volunteer’s) hugs.
Justin, 1st grade

She (her volunteer) is nice and I got to go to her house in the summer and have a cookout.
Natalee, 4th grade

Our volunteers say…

I believe you will get as much out of mentoring as you give (encouraging other CIS board members to volunteer as mentors.)                                                                                                                            Sandra Allen, Board member and volunteer

Working with students is not a chore—it’s a joy. I can’t think of a more rewarding way to spend a little time each week. I truly receive more than I give.                                                                                Pat Wood

I love helping anyone and anywhere I am needed. I have always been helped by loving and caring people in times of need and feel we should always give back in any we can!
Shawn Jarrell

Seeing (my student’s) face light up when she sees me come into her classroom and knowing she has been looking forward to this visit is my reason for volunteering with CIS.
